Demob Interview

  1. Hi, how are you?
  2. I'm very well and life is good but busy :-)

  3. How would you personally describe the band?
  4. We are a streetpunk band since 1978, different people say we sound like different bands which we take as a compliment, but our early influences were and still are to a degree; The Clash, Angelic Upstarts, The Ruts, SLF, UK Subs, Cockney Rejects. There are many other bands who inspire us now even though they are younger.

  5. How’d you come up with the name?
  6. we were in a pub one night when our original drummer just asked the question "what would be a good name for a punk band" when another mate suggested DEMOB and that was that really :-)

  7. If you were stranded on a desert island (and somehow had a music player available) what is the one album you'd want with you.
  8. Sex Pistols, Never Mind The Bollocks

  9. How has the punk scene changed since you first started? Is it better/worse or just the same?
  10. Better in many ways, very little violence, no spitting, and the great social everywhere you go

  11. Whats your favourite song to play live/favourite place to play live?
  12. Fav song to play live has to be No Room For You, it's an anthem in it's own right and the crowd fell a part of it as well. Yokohama Bay Hall, Japan was an experience for sure for the best venue to play

  13. Tell the readers five facts about the band / band members they will not already know.
  14. 1/ We were the first multi-racial punk band in the country
2/ We were offered to go on the same ska lable as the Selecter if we could write some ska songs, but punk was our baby and so we chose not to go that route (the song Down our street was our poor effort at ska which was never record but played live)
3/ I am not singing on the first 2 singles Anti-Police (which I wrote) and No Room For You, our mate Mark 'Miff' Smith had the honour in doing that :-)
4/ Our original drummer fought for the British welterweigth boxing title against Errol Graham, unfortunately he came second.
5/ One of the band is a professional in 2 areas of the working enviroment.

  15. You're invisible for a day...what do you do?
  16. Rob the biggest fooking bank I could and have a huge punk rock party

  17. Plans, gigs and releases for the rest of 2008?
  18. We are going to finish the dozen or so gigs this year, carry on writing the new album for release in Sprin next year and carry on with planning tours for 2009.

  19. Any extra comments?
  20. a call to all peole who make the punk scene a living vibrant scene, support your local scene, young up and coming bands and promote the hell out of the punk scene, we all need each other to make things work so sleeves up and lets get on with it and enjoy :-)

    Too Right!

  21. Thanks for your time!
  22. the pleasure was all mine
    Andy K (DEMOB)
