I'm off to see the Sex Pistols tonight, thanks to a phone call from a friend sayin "i've got tickets for the pistols you wanna go ?" Of course i say yes. I get to the academy about 7pm, theres loads of people about already, a quick pint in a near by pub then into the academy about 7.30pm. There is only one question everyone is askin, who's supporting them? The answer is no-one but that doesn't seem to matter.
Sex Pistols hit the stage about 9pm, Mr Rotten offering a word of advice for people throwing beer about, "beer is expensive here , drink it you idiots we are your friends!" All the classic pistols tunes are played of course, "god save the queen", "anarchy in the uk" & "bodies" were highlights for me, we even got a re-worked version of "belsen was a gas" changed to "baghdad was a blast!!"
About halfway through the set Mr Rotten & co have a five minute break, but this is the only sign of old age, which can be forgiven!!
the pistols leave the stage about 11pm and 3000 people go home happy.
Was this a "great rock n roll swindle?" I don't think so. Go see them and make up your own mind, after all thats what punk is about isn't it?
